Approximately one of every 5 pilots admits that he has been fatigued enough in the workplace to make an error.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The survey was conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, and for the first time, targets transportation workers.  In addition to airline pilots, the survey also included responses from truck drivers, bus drivers, taxi drivers and train operators.  Overall, the survey found that transportation workers were most likely to suffer from fatigue in the workplace, compared to non-transportation workers.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But, the study found some of the highest incidences of sleep deprivation-related errors occurred among pilots, train operators and truckers.  Pilots seem to suffer severely from fatigue.  &lt;a title="California Aviation Lawyers" href="http://www.baileypartners.com/"&gt;California aviation attorneys&lt;/a&gt; noted that approximately 43% of them admitted that they made an error from fatigue at least once every week.  Similar results were also seen among truck drivers and train operators. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Additionally, pilots also seem to be dissatisfied with the amount of sleep they get in a day.  About 50% of all pilots in the survey said that they did not get enough during a typical workday.  Only train operators get less sleep than pilots, with more than 57% saying that they do not get enough sleep during normal workdays.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
Pilots were also found to be more likely to report being involved in accidents while they were commuting to the workplace.  About 6% of pilots reported being involved in accidents while commuting to work, compared to 1% of non-transportation workers.  More than one third of the pilots in the study blamed their sleep deprivation and constant fatigue on their schedules that don&amp;rsquo;t allow them sufficient rest breaks.  &lt;br /&gt;

New research confirms to &lt;a href="/attorneys" title="California Spinal Injury Attorney"&gt;California spinal injury lawyers&lt;/a&gt; that the extent of damage after a spinal injury can be limited by performing surgery quickly on a patient.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;According to the research, the chances of better recovery increase substantially when the patient undergoes surgery within 24 hours of the injury. Conventional medical wisdom has held that it is better to delay surgery on a spinal cord injury victim. &lt;p&gt;The research is based on clinical trials, which included 313 patients with spinal cord injury from the U.S. and Canada.  According to the clinical trials, patients who underwent decompression surgery within 24 hours of the injury showed substantial improvement in their neurological recovery.  These patients were less likely to suffer paralysis, and were more likely to report substantial neurological improvement.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Approximately 20% of the patients showed improvement after the surgery.  In fact, one in five patients with a cervical spine injury who underwent surgery 24 hours after the injury, walked away after the surgery with no signs of paralysis.  In contrast, among the persons who had surgery later, less than 9% showed marked improvement.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
However, the effect of the surgery is seen only in those patients who have suffered injuries to the cervical spine area, or the upper spine region.

&lt;p&gt;Last year the FDA launched an initiative aimed at encouraging medical professionals, including physicians, nurses and pharmacists, to come forward with information about misleading advertisements placed by pharmaceutical companies.  The action against Pfizer is the result of one such tip.  The information that Pfizer allegedly concealed on its website involved the drug risks from a number of pharmaceutical products, including Chantix, the drug to prevent smoking, and Norvasc, a high blood pressure medication.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;p&gt;
According to the FDA, the website contains links to pages dedicated to these drugs, but these pages contain no information about the drugs risks.  Patients, who browse through the website looking for information on these drugs, would have no clue about the &lt;a href="/personal-injury-attorney/product-liability" title="California Personal Injury Lawyer Drug Safety"&gt;drug safety risks&lt;/a&gt;.  For instance, &lt;a href="/personal-injury-attorney/pharmaceutical-negligence" title="Los Angeles Pharmaceutical Liability Lawyer"&gt;Los Angeles pharmaceutical liability attorneys&lt;/a&gt; are aware of studies associating Chantix with an increased risk of suicide or suicidal tendencies. &lt;p&gt;The FDA has been receiving a number of tips since the initiative began. The accident occurred on April 17, when the boy had visited the Huntington City Beach.  The boy had been flying a kite when he fell backwards into a deteriorating fire pit.  The pit was located near Tower 1 and had a smoldering fire.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The boy suffered second and third degree burn injuries on his chest and arm.  He had to spend weeks in surgical intensive care.  According to his parents, his treatment is still ongoing, and he is required to see doctors every two weeks.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
His parents allege that his injuries would never have occurred if the fire pit had been properly maintained.  When officers arrived at the scene, they found that one side of the pit had collapsed down to sand level.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
There are 167 fire pits in Huntington Beach.  According to city officials, all of these pits are checked and cleaned every night.  However, they claim it is not possible to check all the fire pits during the day, because of a shortage of staff.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This is the third fire pit-related lawsuit filed against Huntington Beach in the past few years.  Two children, including a toddler suffered serious burn injuries in a similar accident in August 2009.  The trial in that case is set for September.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Most fire pit accidents occur on government-owned property.  Authorities need to make sure that fire pits are properly maintained, clean fire pits regularly, and install proper warning signs. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The Senate Special Committee on Aging will hear from the Government Accountability Office.&amp;nbsp; In 2009, the Government Accountability Office had cited the Food and Drug Administration for its misuse of the fast-track approval process.&amp;nbsp; According to the Government Accountability Office, the Food and Drug Administration has approved at least 67 medical devices through the fast-track process since 2009 alone.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The concerns over the misuse of the 510(k) process have heightened since the nationwide scrutiny involving Johnson &amp;amp; Johnson&amp;rsquo;s subsidiary, DePuy Orthopedics&amp;rsquo; hip joint devices.&amp;nbsp; Last year, the company was forced to recall more than 93,000 hip implants for the high risk of revision surgery associated with these.&amp;nbsp; Thousands of people who were implanted with the devices have chronic complaints of consistent pain, swelling, and other complaints.&amp;nbsp; These patients were advised to have revision surgery to replace the devices.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Studies have indicated that the revision surgery rate for these hip implants is approximately 12% over a period of five years.&amp;nbsp; Revision surgeries that have been performed on some of the patients have revealed horrifying signs of bone damage and degeneration.&amp;nbsp; Surgeons have found masses of dead tissue around the implant area.&amp;nbsp; These implants had been approved through the 510(k) process.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;The 510(k) process was initially developed for the quick approval of power wheelchairs, catheters and other devices that were sufficiently similar to existing approved devices already in the market.&amp;nbsp; However, the Food and Drug Administration now uses the fast-track process to clear even critical and sensitive devices, like hip implants and cardiac devices. &amp;nbsp;The risks of defective medical devices slipping through the cracks of this flimsy program are too great for &lt;strong&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;a title="Los Angeles Dangerous Drug Lawyer" href="/personal-injury-attorney/pharmaceutical-negligence"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;California pharmaceutical liability attorneys&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/a&gt; to ignore.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

According to the CPSC, commercial establishments would likely have to incur expenses of more than $460 million to replace an approximate 935,000 cribs. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

He sued both Johnson &amp;amp; Johnson and its Ortho-McNeill-Janssen pharmaceuticals unit. The jury assigned 75 % of liability to Ortho-McNeill-Janssen, 10% to Schedin and 15% to his doctor. Schedin was awarded approximately $700,000 in damages for his claim that Johnson &amp;amp; Johnson failed to warn about the risks of taking the antibiotic. However, the jury rejected his claim that Johnson &amp;amp; Johnson violated state consumer fraud law by concealing information about the antibiotic.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Two of the cardiac devices, a cardiac stent called Taxus Express by Boston Scientific and a device called Angio-Seal STS were found to have potential safety problems. That doesn't mean that both of these devices are defective. What it means is that using the information gained from the study of these two devices, regulators can look for similar problems that exist in other devices. &lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;Those concerns were raised at an aviation safety seminar in Milan last week.&amp;nbsp; According to the Flight Safety Foundation, the 2010 safety rate is just average right now.&amp;nbsp; However, if there are any more crashes before January, the safety rate for 2010 will actually dip below the average.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt;According to Flight Safety Foundation, the five-year average for serious plane crashes hit an all-time low in 2006.&amp;nbsp; However, since then, the average has actually been rising.&amp;nbsp; In 2010, there have been at least 17 serious crashes across the globe.&amp;nbsp; Fourteen of these occurred during the landing and approach phase.&amp;nbsp; There have been at least five major runway incidents.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
